FVHS’s JV football team won their first game of this season on Oct. 19. FVHS defeated a tough South Garner team, 29-8. Following this win from the Bengals, their overall record is now 1-8.
After starting the season 0-8, FVHS needed this win to gain confidence for their upcoming rivalry game against Willow Spring High School.
“This win felt very good. Everyone came together to win this key game to get ready for Willow Springs this week,” said Jayden Tinley, a sophomore JV player.
Coming into this game, the Bengals would average 10.8 ppg, while South Garner would average 19.6 ppg. Even though South Garner was, on paper, the better team, the Bengals would run a triple option offense all four quarters, just like they have been practicing all season.
“ It was a big win, we definitely needed it. We showed what we could do in all four quarters. Special teams, offense, and defense all clicked 100 percent,” said head coach Vincent Pratama.
Even though the Bengals beat South Garner, they have a very difficult matchup against Willow Springs High School on Oct. 27.
Willow Springs is currently 6-3 and is averaging 25.2 ppg.
“This is a new town rivalry. Our objective is to win and to keep the tradition going,” said Pratama.
