Cats and dogs are the most popular household pets in America. Dogs tend to be more active and require a lot of exercise and attention, while cats are less active, more self-sufficient, and require little attention. This makes cats easier to take care of, which means more kinds of people can have an easy experience raising a cat, such as elderly or disabled people.

“I’ve owned two cats. Cats are better, just better,” said sophomore Sophia Rogers.

Cats take up less space than dogs, and only have a few necessities like a litter box and a spot to sleep. Dogs are much more expensive. They can cost a large amount due to the breed and require a lot more toys and equipment.

Dogs are much more likely to destroy furniture and personal belongings due to their high amounts of energy. Cats are much calmer than dogs.

Cats are also better at problem solving than dogs. Both cats and dogs have high amounts of intelligence, but cats are better at risk versus reward, such as deciding whether to hunt an animal or give up, and problem solving such as or how to get down from a high place. On the other hand, dogs excel at social intelligence.

Cats have so many reasons to being the better pet option. They are easier to take care of, cheaper, and more accessible for different groups of people, which are all reasons which make cats the superior animal, even if dogs are more popular.
