Bengal Cafe, Java House, was opened in the Media Center of FVHS on Sept. 18, 2023. The cafe is open in the morning during breakfast and only serves cold brew coffee at the moment. You can get a variety of different flavorings to add to coffee, including chocolate, white chocolate and caramel. You can choose to add milk or water, as well as a choice of whipped cream. Currently, the cost of coffee is $3 which can be paid with your school lunch number. The cafe also sells breakfast foods from the cafeteria, such as fruit.

Right now the selection is limited, but seasonal flavors and hot coffee is planned to be added to the menu. Pumpkin spice is coming soon for the Halloween season.

The cafe is currently run by three people, including the manager, Linda Winn. It is expected for the staff to be cut down to just two people eventually, one person to run the register and another to make the coffee.

The cafe has only been open for a few days, but Winn has reported success so far with people purchasing drinks. 

“Yesterday [Sept. 18] was our first day open, so today [Sept. 19] we probably served about 45,” said Winn.

A cafe has been planned for FVHS for at least a year and a half. Winn said the main issue with it taking so long to open was the matter of not having enough people to run it.

“We just didn’t have the staff,” Winn said.

The first cafe in a WCPSS school was opened in Willow Spring High School, where Winn used to work. The reason WSHS was chosen for the first cafe was because FVHS was being rebuilt at the time; however, a cafe at FVHS was always in discussion.
