Return of the Jedi makes its theatrical comeback after 40 years

After 40 years, “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” is making its return to theaters. This will be the latest release of the movie since the Special Edition, which was released in 1997. On April 8, fans who attended Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023 were the first to hear of the return of the sixth installment in the Skywalker saga. The movie will be showing in select theaters throughout the US and the UK starting on April 28.

This is not the first rerelease of a Star Wars movie we have seen recently. In 2020, fans got to experience “The Empire Strikes Back” in theaters again, for the 40th anniversary of the film. “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” also returned to the big screen just before the release of “Andor” on Disney+ in 2022.

For both the re-release of “The Empire Strikes Back” and now “Return of the Jedi,” Star Wars fan and graphic designer, Matt Ferguson, created new posters for both movies.

“The artwork should tell a story,” explained Ferguson according to starwars.com, “So for me it only made sense to give over the composition to these two characters,” referring to his choice to focus on Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker for this year’s poster for “Return of the Jedi.”

In the US the rerelease will run from April 28- May 4, the annual Star Wars Day. For the UK, this release will be from April 28- May 1.
