With the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory at Super Bowl LVII, quarterback Patrick Mahomes is now a two-time champion. With that comes the debate over whether or not he is the greatest of all time (GOAT). After all, there are plenty of other names in the mix for GOAT statuses like Tom Brady, Joe Montana, and Peyton Manning.

When comparing statistics, Brady has a clear edge when it comes to championships won. He has seven Super Bowl wins under his belt and 35 playoff wins. In contrast, Mahomes currently has two championships and 11 playoff wins. Additionally, Brady has more passing yards (80,944) than Mahomes (20,474). But that gap is likely to narrow as the younger quarterback gains more experience and plays more.

Brady’s style of play is known as “game management,” which is the ability to make smart decisions throughout a game and lead his team to victory. He reads defenses well and can make accurate passes on demand. On the other hand, Mahomes’ style of the play focuses on his athleticism and improvisation skills. He can scramble out of difficult situations with ease and often makes daring throws that show off his arm strength. This type of playmaking ability makes him an exciting player to watch and gives him an edge over Brady in terms of entertainment value.

Ultimately, it’s hard to definitively say who is the GOAT between these two quarterbacks, because there are so many factors that need to be taken into consideration, such as statistics, style of play, longevity in the league and how each player brings something unique to the table that sets them apart from one another. However, Patrick Mahomes likely has nine years left in his career compared to Brady’s 20-year career as a starting quarterback in professional football leagues, it seems likely that if Patrick Mahomes continues along his current trajectory he could one day dethrone Tom Brady as GOAT.
