65th annual Grammy Awards breaks history

The 65th annual Grammy award ceremony occurred on Feb. 5, 2023, and was just as memorable as it always is every year. Beyonce broke history with 32 Grammys, which is more than anyone else in the world. She won three during this year’s ceremony and was nominated for nine.

Her acceptance speech for her 32nd Grammy was amazing. Her newest album “RENAISSANCE” was up for best dance/electronic music album, and she made sure to recognize the founders of that genre, the LGBTQ community.

“I’d like to thank the queer community for your love, for inventing the genre. God bless you,” she said.

This year at the Grammys was big for the queer community. Kim Petras and Sam Smith who identify as transgender and nonbinary were the first transgender people to win a grammy. They won in the category for the best pop duo with their song “Unholy.”

Lizzo’s “About Damn Time” was a perfect choice for record of the year. It’s a fun, feel-good song that perfectly encapsulates a good mood, and it definitely deserved to win song of the year. Who doesn’t love Lizzo?

Kendrick Lamar is a lyrical genius. He won best rap album for “Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers,” and that would make it his 16th win to date. That album is truly art with the way that he uses music to portray a breakup and the feelings that come along with it.

Harry Styles happened to win two Grammys, one for album of the year and another for the pop vocal album. Let me clarify and say that Harry Styles is a great artist and performer, but these awards just should not have gone to this album. Adele, Kendrick Lamar, Lizzo, and Bad Bunny were also up for this award, and any of them would have had more solid material over “Harry’s House.”  “Little Freak” and “Matilda” are so repetitive and basically all the songs on that album get boring within two weeks. It’s annoying because his self-titled album was so good.

Now onto the fashion choices. Of course, Miss Taylor Swift had to make an ode to all eras and rock a midnight blue cropped sparkly two-piece set by Roberto Cavalli. It was just stunning, and it was totally on brand for Taylor.

Another one of my favorites was Cardi B’s dress. She wore an electric blue bodycon dress that had an almost tulle-like structure to it over her face. Indian fashion designer Gaurav Gupta designed her dress and it is just jaw-dropping.

Bebe Rexha had on this very trendy and elegant dress. The Internet, however, did not appreciate it as much as it should have. She wore a bright pink dress with a halter top matched with 70s hair and makeup. She basically looked like Barbie, and it meshed well with her new image. She was dressed in Moschino, and she looked amazing.

This year’s Grammys was memorable as always. There were so many great fashion choices, awards won, and hilarious pop culture moments.
