The FVHS Bengals Homecoming week took place the week of Oct. 13. Students participated in spirit week with themed days such as white lie day, pink day, Adam Sandler day, and Bengal Out.
These events were meant to excite students about the upcoming Homecoming game and the crowning of FVHS Homecoming king and queen.
The football game took place on Oct. 17 and resulted in a blowout win against Smithfield-Selma High School, 51-0, their largest win of the season.
The Bengals showed energy and teamwork since the first snap and scored within the game’s first two minutes.
The Bengals came into the game with a record of 3-4. After their loss against Cleveland High School, it was a must-win game for them.
Sophomore running back Matthew Ziglar had a total of 39 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, and caught one touchdown.
“It felt great contributing to the team and giving it everything I’ve got,” said Ziglar. “I want to make everyone who supports me proud.”
Junior Ben Cole had his first varsity start at quarterback and led his teammates to victory. He had 79 passing yards and two passing touchdowns.
“I was nervous, but my teammates were helping me and telling me it was going to be okay,” said Cole. “My goal is to keep winning and do the same thing we did last Friday.”
In addition to the Bengals’ win, Homecoming king and queen were announced at halftime. Seniors Madison Doss and Jax Collum were awarded Homecoming king and queen.
The couple has been together since their freshman year, making this experience more special as they celebrate each other and their relationship.
“The win was very meaningful and such a big milestone to perfectly end our high school experience together,” said Doss.
The Bengals’ next game is away versus the 3-4 South Garner Titans at 7 p.m.
