Coach Connie Barnes is leading womens FVHS golf to a strong season on the course with a 4-0 record. With a close-knit group of athletes and a motivating character building coach, this team has it all.
The season is going very well for them. Like any other sports team there is always room for improvement, but golf for FVHS is off to a great start 4 and 0.
One of the key things that makes the team so successful is Connie Barnes the coach. Qualifying for regionals is one of her main goals.
The golf team isn’t all about having goals and winning, it’s about the growth of character and building of the relationships within the sport.
“The best part of coaching is being around the kids, and the golf team is a great group of girls,” said Connie Barnes.
Junior Taylor Barnes is a crucial contributor who is also focused on making it to regionals.
“My favorite part of being on the team is the people, the group of athletes we have,” said Taylor Barnes.
When it comes to their season, Barnes said it has been “very up and down,” but regardless, she and her team are working to get better every day.
A view from a younger individual is always helpful to understand different perspectives on the game.
Caroline Simpson is a freshman on the women’s golf team and looks up to older teammates for motivation.
“Seeing the older girls perform better than me helps me want to get better,” said Simpson.
Understanding the importance of balance is important to her as well.
“Golf is hard, so I try to balance schoolwork and sports by trying to get as much done as I can,” said Simpson.
FVHS women’s golf is a hardworking, balanced team that is determined to make regionals. With a great group of athletes and an inspiring coach, the group is a well-rounded and highly skilled example of a real team. With confidence and camaraderie, the women’s golf team is ready to make this season unforgettable.
