Model UN is a club here in FVHS that simulates the United Nations (UN). Each person represents a different nation as they bring problems and debate on how to solve them in the most peaceful and efficient way possible just like the actual UN. The club meets every available Thursday after school in room 2708.
Model UN helps simulate the UN and helps students learn the principles and its functions. The club is supported and even encouraged by the UN as many leaders of arts, law, government, business and the UN itself participated in Model UN as students. Model UN and the UN build and maintain connections and relationships with each other because the UN shares first-hand knowledge to Model UN to create an accurate and authentic simulation.
“Model UN gives [a] chance for everybody to speak. It makes people open to creativity, and kids learn new things about different countries,” said Tristan McKinney, the teacher adviser for the club. She believes that kids are learning new things about different areas of the world because of the club.
Many students claim to be busy with jobs, family or other clubs, but that does not mean they shouldn’t try out Model UN or clubs in general. There is always time to socialize and go out to a school club if it interests you.
If you like to debate and are interested in government, make sure to check out Model UN.
