Fuquay-Varina High School is starting a new tradition for the school’s seniors, starting with the Class of 2026. The tradition includes taking Burger King crowns and personalizing them for the Spirit Week pep rally at the end of next week. Many of the seniors are already looking forward to participating in designing their crowns.
Multiple seniors have already started planning their crown designs, including senior Dakota Walker, who was very enthusiastic about this new tradition.
“I think it’s a really unique idea. I love how it promotes creativity for all students. I got my supplies yesterday, and I plan to make it match my HOCO dress. I hope it continues because I think it’s a really neat and cute idea,” said Walker.
Walker’s enthusiasm shows how many students feel about the new tradition, and she sees it as a nice way to bring the senior class together. Seniors hope the tradition will be passed down through the years to create a legacy of their own.
Senior Holden Bierman, agreed with Walker about the lasting effects a tradition like this could have on the school.
“I will be participating and I think the tradition will stick because it’s a fun thing for the seniors to do before they leave. It will definitely connect the community and give people something to look forward to,” said Bierman.
Traditions play an important role for the school community because it unites the seniors and gives underclassmen another reason to look forward to their senior year. It also allows them to use their creativity and individuality to create something they love that many will hold on to after graduation.
“I feel like traditions promote unity and community within the school and within the senior class. They also give freshmen something fun to look forward to,” Walker said.
As spirit week approaches, students and teachers are all excited to see how the seniors make this tradition their own.
With the creativity and eagerness of the students already evident, the Burger King crowns may become a lasting tradition here at FVHS.
