From Friday night lights to pep rallies, the JV and varsity cheer teams bring the energy that keeps the school spirit of Fuquay-Varina High School.

With football season in full swing, both teams have been hard at work leading the student section, performing new routines and preparing for upcoming games. Their dedication goes beyond the sidelines, bringing energy and pride to every corner of our school.

Senior Emma Baker is the captain of the varsity team, and she’s been setting examples for the underclassmen on JV.

“Varsity cheerleading sets an example for JV to increase their skills, be driven, to make the varsity team next year and to demonstrate how to lead a crowd,” said Baker.

It’s clear that she’s a role model for our younger cheerleaders that need motivation to try harder and push themselves to be the best they can.

To be more interactive with our student section, the varsity team has a new dice game where they use a blowup dice that the Orange Crush gets to roll. Whatever number it lands on is the skill they do which correlates to a numbered board.

FVHS cheer doesn’t just stop at varsity, though.

Sophomore Taylor King feels that being on JV has helped her grow as a cheerleader.

“I have to learn to be patient with other people that I’ve never stunted with before,” said King.

The team as a whole shares special moments like hanging out before and after games or practice, hitting new stunts and becoming closer as friends.

“Our team’s main goal is to go to competition,” said King.

King referred to a cheer event where school-affiliated teams perform routines of tumbling, stunting, dance and cheer elements to be judged on difficulty, execution and vitality.

But no matter the team, both JV and varsity cheerleaders continue to lead with spirit and dedication, keeping us entertained and proud.

To support your teams next, varsity cheers Oct. 17 for our Homecoming game and JV cheers Oct. 16 at Smithfield-Selma High School.
