When the Orange Crush leaders take charge under the stadium lights, you can see painted faces, flags in hand and a wall of school colors.

These leaders don’t just shout chants and wave their arms. They are responsible for not only creating a cheerful environment, but making sure that everyone is included and welcomed.

Senior Gavin Corbett said, “Our role is to, of course, lead the student section, say our chants, make sure everyone has a fun time and follow the rules.”

Both students as well as student leaders have had unforgettable experiences as a result of the sense of community as well as reliability. The loudest cheers are often expressed during big wins and close games. Even after or during a loss, it’s easy to rely on the OC to raise everyone’s spirit.

Senior De’Shawn Green said, “My favorite memory so far was definitely beating Willow. The student section was loud, and it was a good game in general.”

Of course, this position is about more than just having fun, it’s also about setting a great example for students in the future. Since they know that younger students will eventually replace them, leaders want to set an example and enforce rules that will ensure tradition carry on. Those who care deeply about school spirit thoroughly guide the student section.

Senior Ivan Reyna said, “I would advise future leaders to be nice to everybody, stay supportive even if we’re down and just have a good time.”

Regardless of the score, their enthusiasm and dedication helps bring everyone together. By leading chants, maintaining a positive atmosphere or just sharing smiles, the OC makes sure that the student section is more than just noise. Here the student section is a place where school spirit is genuinely evident and where the best memories are created.
