Fuquay-Varina High School is having a Culture Fair to celebrate different cultures Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the FVHS auditorium. Everyone is welcome to attend this fair. There will be music, dance performances, poetry, food trucks and students can present their cultures. The culture fair is being organized by Monica Delgado Gracia, FVHS assistant principal, and Raquel Ferreyra, Spanish 2 and Heritage 2 teacher.
The reason why the culture fair is important is to spread knowledge of other cultures to students, to accept one another, and to celebrate each and every unique culture. The Culture Fair is one way of showing significance and acceptance of other cultures.
“Cultural background helps to understand one another, and that leads to more tolerance, and better understanding of one another,” said Ferreyra.
Delgado and Ferreyra are the main organizers for this event.
“The Spanish Honors Society is deeply involved in this,” said Ferreyra. The Spanish Honors Society is advertising and bringing people together to help organize this event.
More than 30 students are taking part in the culture fair. They are preparing for presentations or performances that represent their culture. Some of the performances include speeches, plays and dance performances. As of now, 17 different countries are being represented in the Culture Fair, and there will be seven different performances by students.
Daksha Ravva said, “My group will be doing a dance performance, along with a trifold that will represent India. I feel excited about it because I get to perform with my friends.”
Students will represent their culture by having an exhibit of their own that represents their food, languages, traditions, fashion, and heritage, and history.
Ferreyra said, “We should all be proud of our heritage.”
The Culture Fair is free to attend.
