“Hollow Knight” is an indie game made by three gamers who call themselves Team Cherry. When “Hollow Knight” first released on Feb. 24, 2017, it took over the world with its bug characters and complex gameplay. “Hollow Knight” was a very big success, so Team Cherry started to make a sequel of the game, known today as “Hollow Knight: SilkSong.” Instead of playing with the original character, the Knight, the player instead plays as the Knight’s older half-sister, Hornet.
In “SilkSong”, the protagonist is a character named Hornet, who is half spider and a princess of two royals. Hornet wasn’t allowed to spend much time with her birth mother, Herra the queen of the Deepnest, due to her falling into a sleep because of a deal between Herra and the Pale King. She was raised by two other queens, one who nurtured her and one who taught her to fight. The plot of “SilkSong” is about Hornet getting captured away from the Hallownest and into a citadel called the Pharloom.
“SilkSong” was a highly anticipated game. It was meant to release after the first trailer came out in February 2019, two years after “Hollow Knight” came out, but it ended up taking six full years for the game to actually release. It was unknown why it took so long, but fans are happy nonetheless. The game is so popular that when it came out in September 2025, it caused many gaming consoles to crash due to the millions of copies of “SilkSong” being sold at once. It’s also a fairly cheap game compared to bigger companies’ games, with it only costing $20.
Team Cherry had also included an Easter egg fight. The fight is with a character named Seth. Seth was created by a boy who had cancer but sadly passed away before the game was released. It’s a nice sentiment and shows how Team Cherry cares for the fandom and isn’t doing it for the money or fame, but instead they are doing it for the fans.
It really shows how Team Cherry are just three guys doing what they like and how much they appreciate their fans. Despite the corruption in the gaming industry, there are still companies and people that sell things that they actually enjoy doing.
The platforms where you can buy “SilkSong” digitally are: PC on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox consoles, and the Playstation 4 and 5. For hard copies you can buy the game in GameStop, Best Buy, and any other gaming store.
