The FVHS color guard performed at Fuquay-Varina High School led by guard captain Violetta Stratis and other leadership during half time at a home game against Willow Springs High School.

“It’s cool to have the privilege to perform in front of so many people, especially when it’s something we’ve been working on. We still have lots to improve but I can’t wait to see what it turns into,” said sophomore Ethne Dux.

With the practices, competitions and games, color guard makes progression throughout the season showing their growth within the team. Some members earned solos, such as junior Alekhya Makineni with a 80 count sabre solo.

“It makes me nervous, but it’s what I’ve been practicing for, so when I nail my solo I get a lot more confident,” Makineni said.

Sophomore Maddie Edwards also had a 5-16 count flag solo.

“I was nervous because I’m a first year with a solo, but completing it always is a big accomplishment to me,” said Edwards.

Color guard is looking at an impressive season with a promising leadership team such as Makineni and Dux as equipment managers.

Senior Samantha Williams is the weapons captain, and senior Roslyan Fernandez is the flag captain. The guard instructor is Giovanni Figueroa. With the help of leadership and the hard work of the team, color guard looks to have an impressive season.
