Despite AI being a helpful learning tool for many students, about 35 percent of high school teachers think that AI does more harm to students’ creativity while only six percent think AI is helpful. AI stands for artificial intelligence and it is commonly used among students of all grades for assistance with drafting, writing, drawing and research.
Artificial intelligence is used in many forms of school appliances like computers, tablets and smartphones. Many students that do creative or art related work use electronic devices to create digital art such as animations, pixel art, 3D sculptures and models.
¨I get to use any materials I want when drawing digitally, which makes it more accessible and gives me much more freedom,¨ said senior Alexia Poole. These devices which often include AI assistants help a lot of art students with creating new digital art pieces, assisting them in brainstorming new ideas and generating reference images for inspiration.
AI is not only good for art purposes; it can also be a good source for research and writing. In 2025, a survey of over 1,500 students found that 73 percent of those using AI felt that it was effective for their editing and writing skills.”
AI can be a good way to break things down for you, if you’re stuck on something or need an explanation,” said freshman Isabella Carmmarata.
However, others argue that the use of AI gets taken advantage of in schools.
¨A lot of students here just use AI out of laziness. It’s just copy and paste if we’re being honest,¨ said junior Jasmine Terrasse. Many students have used AI to cheat on tests and quizzes and even plagiarize essays. This results in a lack of creativity in students
Although AI has its disadvantages, a lot of teachers have different apps installed to read over written assignments to prevent the use of plagiarism. Incorporating personalized assignments that require more critical thinking makes it harder for AI to replicate.
Therefore, as long as AI sites aren’t being used for the wrong reasons, it can overall help tons of students throughout the school year. AI is a good and reliable source for students to not only improve their creativity but also their educational skills as a whole.
