Autumn is approaching faster than expected, which means big business for cafes. Most coffee shops sell fall season goods, with choices ranging from pumpkin spice lattes to pumpkin spice cookies. They seem to be so popular that it leaves us with a question: is pumpkin spice appetizing?

Pumpkin spice originated in Southeast Asia and Central America in the 1930s. During this era, it spread across cookbooks and recipes worldwide. Ever since then, it has become a tradition that many use to get in the fall spirit.

Most students enjoy the cooler season whether they like pumpkin spice or not, but what do they think about the drink fad?

“I personally do not like pumpkin spice drinks or products because I feel that they are a little bit out of style. It’s just not for me. If you like it that’s okay, but I don’t,” said freshman Marin Setser.

Other people around school had different opinions.

“I don’t think it’s a trend. I think it’s tasty because it’s my favorite seasonal flavor,” said freshman Ava Beard. Some students enjoy pumpkin spice for the same reason as Beard. Not only do they just enjoy the drinks, but some even like pumpkin spice cream cheese. There are a ton of foods and drinks that are pumpkin spice flavored that excite people to try.

Another student also agreed with Beard.

“I think it’s tasty because you can only get it once a year,” said freshman Maddie Pulling.

Many students seem to really enjoy the drink and rush to get it anytime it’s in season. On the other hand, a few students say they will never try it again.

Pumpkin spice is a very controversial drink according to students at Fuquay-Varina High School. With that being said, it’s safe to say that the answer is an even split.
