Sydney Batch, Senator of North Carolina, is coming as a guest speaker to FVHS for Women’s Health Outreach Advocates (WHOA) to inspire students with her work, Sept. 30, 2025, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in FVHS Media Center. WHOA is inviting students to join this special event.
Batch serves as a Leader of the North Carolina Senate Democratic Caucus, the first woman to hold this historical position. She is an advocate, who represents Wake County and the State of North Carolina both in and out of state legislatures. She is a family law attorney, child welfare advocate and social worker, who has spent two decades of her life fighting for families navigating through tough decisions and uncertain futures.
She earned an undergraduate degree, juris doctorate, and a master of social work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a founding partner of Batch, Poore & Williams, P.C., where she practices family and child welfare along with her husband. Batch is also actively involved in volunteering in a variety of organizations.
She is a current member board for Interfaith Prison Ministries for Women and a former board member for the Julia Cump Foundation and the Women’s Center of Wake County. She had many awards, such as Wake Woman of the Year award and the most recent one being Council for Exceptional Children 2022 Children Advocacy Award, just to name a few.
“Sydney Batch has done great work in the field of child welfare and social work while also managing her interest in legislation. Her work in all fields are truly fascinating, and I’m really excited to meet her,” said sophomore Lakshya Bobbili.
Batch is coming to WHOA to talk to students about her work, and her experiences in the government.
“She is coming to talk about women in leadership and women in government.” said Rebecca Bradford, co-club adviser.
“She is coming to WHOA to contribute in building strong women from her experiences.”
WHOA is preparing for the event by placing flyers on bulletin boards around campus and preparing questions for Batch
Students, especially the club members, are excited about meeting Batch, including junior Joshita Mani Vadaparthi.
“They are excited, because she is our state senator, and everybody is eager to meet her,” said Vadaparthi.
