Our Bengals varsity football team will face the Willow Springs Storm at home on September 12.
Coming into this week’s game with a 2-1 record, the team has shown both resilience and growth in the early part of the season.
To mentally prepare before a game, a majority of the players said they listen to music and find different ways to stay calm. Other players rely on their teammates for motivation and encouragement.
Senior Tavares Robinson said, “I like to listen to music and stay by my coach.”
When competing against any team, it’s important to know their strengths and weaknesses.
Junior Justin Odom said, “Our biggest challenge against them will be discipline and staying level-headed against a rival school. Willow likes to trash talk, so it’s important to stay smart.”
Effective communication on and off the field is crucial as it enables players to remain organized and aware of their responsibilities. Direct calls, signals, and adjustments ensure that everyone is on the same page during each play.
Sophomore Matthew Ziglar said, “If we’re not communicating properly, then we’re all not on the same page. It’s important to play as a team.”
Football is not only about competition, but also growth. Every week offers the opportunity for the team to gain knowledge and challenge themselves even more.
Odom said, “I hope that we win obviously, but more importantly, that we do better than the previous week and that we can learn from our mistakes regardless.”
Motivation and staying focused has been a focal point this week. The head coach of the team, Jeb Hall, had a short, yet important message for his team.
Hall said, “Be smart. Be fast. Be physical.”
