The FVHS volleyball team has been working hard this current season, showing their determination on and off the court. Their practices consist of working on skills and building a respectful and healthy bond with their teammates. However, they’ve had a rocky journey.

“I think that it could be better,” said sophomore Taytum Sola, who is on varsity this year. Sophomore Lexi Wright described her team as “hard-working.”

Both Sola and Wright believe that their respective teams could use more improvement, but their faith and trust in each other overpower that.

Before the game, Wright listens to music and does a routine handshake with her teammate, Lindley Rose.

“We all just tell each other we got it, and if they didn’t get this point, they got the next one,” said Wright.

It’s clear that they all support each other, find comfort in each other, and aren’t afraid to be honest. It also makes it better that they’re all friends outside of volleyball, which makes it easier to communicate.

On the bright side, Sola sees the team’s struggle as a building block and just another obstacle in her journey through volleyball.

“I think that it could be better. Our team is pretty inexperienced, I would say. But I think we’re doing well with what we have,” said Sola.

Sola is very experienced with volleyball, as she also plays for the Triangle Volleyball Club on 16 Blue.

The volleyball team recently had a game on Sept. 8. They played at Green Hope High School with disappointing results: JV-A lost 25-20 in their second set, JV-B lost 25–23, and Varsity lost 25-9.

Overall, the FVHS volleyball team has had a challenging season, but it’s not over. You can see them next on Sept. 16 at home against Garner Magnet High School.
