Have you ever watched a show you love and thought how much you wanted to be in it? If you have, I have great news for you. “Outer Banks” and “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” both filmed in Chapel Hill, have been recently casting extras. To be an extra you have to be 18 and older. If you’re not 18 or older, you can still keep this information for the future.
First you need to contact a casting company. Look for the companies that handle productions in North Carolina specifically. It’s also good to check their social media pages for job calls before you contact them. If you go to The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s website, you can find more detailed instructions. A highly recommended casting company in North Carolina would be Cherrix Casting or Arvold. Lastly, always make sure you follow their social media pages to stay updated.
The next step to this process is submitting information about yourself. They need to know your full name, age, height, how to contact you and a headshot. Make sure you have all of these things ready to go when you apply. It’s probably best to do this with a guardian to help you out along the way. There are also some requirements. Project Casting lists some of these, “Open to all ethnicities and backgrounds, Must be available for early morning call times and be prepared for a full day of work (up to 12 hours), Reliable and punctual with the ability to follow directions.” Make sure you qualify before submitting an application.
It’s obvious that everybody has different tastes in shows and movies; some like thrillers and some like comedy. To see if you can get into the genre you want, you can go to Filmnc. This website tells you what movies and shows are being filmed so you can apply to the ones you want. After you click on the film you want, it’ll give you information about it. Also underneath it they list the opportunities you can have as an extra. This website may be helpful for finding the right film for you.
After reading all of this you may still have some questions. The News & Observer may be able to answer them. If you decide to apply, good luck. However, if you can’t apply at the moment, maybe look at new productions being filmed in Chapel Hill and see if you recognize anyone you know in the background.
