The third year of FVHS flag football is underway. Since receiving sponsorship from the Carolina Panthers, the team has continued to evolve and exhibit significant growth.
The team played in their first tournament, hosted at Willow Springs High School, and in their first game, they lost 6-0 against Holly Springs High School.
At this point, the team had only had one practice before their tournament, so it was very challenging for them to work together and be in unison with one another.
Senior captain Nyla Robinson played quarterback for the first time.
“I was really excited for the opportunity. It definitely is a hard position because you have to see the whole field and make the right play,” said Robinson.
Their second game was against Sanderson High School, they heavily improved from their last performance and managed to win 20-0.
In this game, they played with more intensity and were in support of each other, even through the mistakes.
Running back Amirrah McFarland said, “Learning our positions and working together as a team are going to be very important. We were very scrambled on Saturday and that is something we can easily fix with more practice.”
Despite having to quickly adjust to one another, the players’ chemistry was undoubtedly impressive considering the circumstances.
As the team prepares for their upcoming tournament, they are focusing on strengthening communication, sharpening plays, and continuing to build confidence.
Their next scrimmage is Saturday, September 13, at Apex High School. The game will start at 9 a.m and the next one will be at 11 a.m.
