As she approaches graduation, senior Nyla Robinson-Partridge looks back on her high school years with pride and gratitude. From her start as a flag football player in her sophomore year to her plan for college and beyond, Robinson-Partridge’s journey demonstrates the power of dedication, teamwork, and determination.
Robinson-Partridge’s flag football career began when the program itself was just getting started. She quickly became a key part of the team and remembers a specific moment that made her realize how far they had come.
“One of my favorite memories was when we got sponsored by the Carolina Panthers,” said Robinson-Partridge. “We got new jerseys. [Then] running through the tunnel while our names were announced for the first time was unforgettable. It made us feel proud of what we were building.”
When it comes to role models, Robinson-Partridge says that quarterback Jalen Hurts is someone she looks up to.
“He won the Super Bowl even though so many people doubted him,” said Robinson-Partridge. “His story shows that if you work hard and believe in yourself, you can overcome challenges.”
This year, Robinson-Partridge stepped into the role of team captain, focusing not just on performance but also on building unity.
“My goal has been to make sure my teammates have fun, learn, and grow together,” said Robinson-Partridge.
Her leadership doesn’t stop with high school sports. Robinson-Partridge has committed to play at Winston-Salem State University, where she hopes to continue developing her skills as both an athlete and a leader. Beyond sports, she has set her sights on a career in pediatric occupational therapy.
Robinson-Partridge’s advice for younger athletes is simple but meaningful.
“Have fun. It can be stressful learning a new sport or subject, but if you pay attention and go with the flow, it’ll be good,” said Robinson-Partridge. She also reminds players to learn not only their own role but their teammates’ as well, so they can be ready for anything.
As this weekend approaches, Robinson-Partridge and the Fuquay Bengals flag football team will be at Apex High School to play scrimmages at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
