When the school day seems to feel long, sometimes the unexpected jokes or slip-ups from our teachers is what makes the day feel lighter. These lighthearted moments can be the most memorable. We asked students what the funniest thing a past or present teacher has said in class.
Sophomore Yana Papalava said, “One time in Mr. Smith’s class he said ‘Have you met my pythons?’ and he pointed to his arms.”
Clearly, Mr. Smith has no shame bringing both the muscle and the humor.
Another teacher that brings constant laughter to her class is Ms. Ferreya.
Sophomore Sophomore Olyvia McDougald said, “Honestly, almost everything she says is funny; she is always saying something sarcastic.”
We’ve all at some point heard one of our teachers try to use the same vocabulary they hear students using. When whatever they say leaves their mouth, it tends to leave the whole class in laughter.
Sophomore Ethan Hagen said, “I don’t remember the teacher’s name, but he said ‘I skibidied sigma.’”
Sometimes teachers making a simple mistake when talking is what the class finds funny.
Senior Saron Getaneh said, “Ms. Selim said in class once ‘Don’t use gptchat.’”
Substitute teachers can be known to mispronounce students’ names.
Sophomore Sheza Khadijah said that one of her substitute teachers called her “Sneza” during attendance.
Substitute teachers can also just lighten the mood during class.
Sophomore McKayla O’Donnell said, “A substitute in Mrs. Niemann’s class once said ‘Y’all don’t want to see the bear come out of me.’”
Some things teachers say can catch everyone off guard and leave everyone confused.
Sophomore Alex Poindexter said, “While I was taking a test in Ms. Bradford’s class, I smiled at her, and she said ‘Why are you smiling? It’s creeping me out.’ I just laughed off what she said; it confused me a little.”
Although teachers can be strict at times, they all better their students, whether it’s in education or making funny jokes to put a smile on their faces.
