All students have a bad habit that is usually continuous throughout their high school career. I asked FVHS students on their take of what they thought their bad habit was in school. Many people that I had asked responded that their bad habit in school was either procrastination or being on their phone instead of doing their work.
Procrastination can be harmful for school in many instances. One being increased stress. When you delay schoolwork, it just piles up. This creates unnecessary stress, making it harder to concentrate clearly. It also wastes time when you procrastinate. You lose your original motivation and productivity.
Being on your phone instead of doing your work is also some form of procrastination. Phones are a big distraction considering when you check your phone, you lose your focus. It also wastes your time; you can be on it for hours without even noticing. When you’re distracted by your phone, you also will not fully understand what you’re learning.
Sophomore Valentina Valverde said, “As a student, one of my worst habits would be jumping into an assignment or test question too quickly. Instead of taking my time, I start answering right away. Usually I have to backtrack, or I end up turning in an answer that isn’t right.”
When rushing an assignment, you will most likely misread the question the first time, which can completely change what the question is actually asking. This can lead to careless mistakes and errors if you don’t go over your work, which can give you a worse grade than just taking your time with the assignment.
Bad habits can waste your time, hurt your health, lower your focus and make you less determined. Breaking a bad habit can be tough at most times, especially ones in school, but the best thing to do is to replace it with something positive.
