In 2025, social media and social networking apps have become some students’ main priorities. From blindly scrolling on social media to grinding Block Blast in-between classes, every student has a go-to favorite. While Tiktok and Instagram still dominate the app store, there are a lot of new, different apps that are on the rise.
Some students prefer apps that keep them interested, like Block Blast, Roblox, or TikTok. Other students like more involved apps like Instagram, Snapchat, or even CapCut. You might even see some students using more niche apps, like Depop, VSCO, or even Clash Royale.
“I deleted TikTok because it was totally frying my brain. I’m really only ever on Facebook Marketplace now. It’s a lot easier to stay focused without Tiktok,” said sophomore Isaac Howard.
What Howard said reflects a pretty common trend I’ve noticed. A lot of students feel like they get stuck in a loop with the bigger social media apps like Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram. Apps like Block Blast and Youtube, which are both very popular among high schoolers, are a good way to take a break from the pressure or stress of social media.
Above everything else, the most popular app among high school students is definitely TikTok. But that’s not to say that other apps like Instagram, Snapchat and even Block Blast aren’t close seconds. TikTok provides students with endless entertainment and constant dopamine, but it’s also a way to connect with their friends or family. Students also tend to use apps that fit their personalities, which is another reason why TikTok is so widely-used. On TikTok, and other social media, students can really be themselves and separate from the business or stress of a school day.
