Many high school students tend to be involved with sports sometime in their high school years. Each year, no matter the sport, new memories are created, and FVHS students have had a lot to reflect on.
Freshman Demetrius McKoy said, “My favorite memory about football this year was getting moved up to varsity. I can remember the feeling the varsity atmosphere gave me and the fact that it was a rivalry game made the tension rise a lot which made me feel so much better about myself.”
Being a freshman going in as a varsity player is a huge accomplishment and requires a lot of hard work and dedication to achieve this. This is a long lasting memory that has stuck with him throughout his football season.
Sophomore Simone Brecht said, “Throughout the season of playing soccer, my favorite memory was getting to bond with the new girls and growing close with them.”
Sports are a great way to meet new people, and meeting new teammates can feel inclusive for everyone.
“My favorite memory of this softball season was the bus ride back from Eastern Alamance. The whole team wasn’t on the bus, but the people that were, were talking, laughing, and simply enjoying each other’s company,” said junior Kylie McGrogan. “It was one of those nights where I felt really connected with those people on the team, and it made me feel closer to them. There were so many smiles and laughs that night, and it’s a memory that I’ll forever cherish.”
This memory clearly stuck with McGrogan and the details she shared can almost make you feel the happiness she experienced while you’re reading it.
Sophomore Eleanny Martinez said, “My favorite memory of track was reaching the goals I set for the season and also being able to run with my best friends together as a group one last time.”
Setting goals for sports is an amazing way to improve your skills especially when you are surrounded by the people who motivate you.
Playing sports is memorable for everyone, showing us that it’s not just a hobby, but also can shape us to become a better person overall.
