The FVHS mens lacrosse team put up an impressive lineup last week, winning two of their three games. The Bengals claimed their first victory of the week on Tuesday at home, with an 11-5 win. They followed it up with a dominant 12-5 win at South Garner on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Bengals hosted a home game against Corinth Holders. Senior Connor Everett led the scoring efforts with five goals and two assists, while senior Connor Castle had two goals and four assists. Junior Ty Halle pitched in with two goals and one assist, and junior Logan Trembly threw in a goal as well. For the Bengals last goal of the game, senior Jake Altman stepped up, rounding out their total points to 19.

Faceoff specialist Nick Ratnesar won 15-17 and secured 12 ground balls. On the defensive end, senior goalie Ben Thrift played the full game, making 12 saves on 17 shots on goal, helping to bring home the win.

On Wednesday, Fuquay traveled to South Garner and pulled off another decisive victory, this time against the Titans. Halle had a career high six goals, scoring six out of his seven shots. Everett continued his efforts with four goals and an assist. Castle also added one goal and three assists, and Trembly scored one goal.

The Bengals did great with ground balls yet again, collecting 35 in total. Ratnesar had another standout night with nine ground balls and 11 faceoff wins. On defense, Fuquay rotated three goalies between Thrift, junior Lucas Prestipino and freshman Sam Ratensar, who combined saved 8 shots out of 14.

Although the team picked up three penalties in Thursday’s game, their discipline on the field and their ability to bounce back from mistakes kept the Pirates and Titans from gaining any momentum.

With a 2-3 record this week, the Bengals are building momentum going into the playoffs. The offense is clicking, faceoffs are constantly being won and defense is showing great efforts across the roster. If they continue this, Fuquay will be set up for their playoff game against Apex Friendship on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
