High school students tend to forget to do their homework and often lie to their teacher about the real reason why. This is what our FVHS students had to say about their best excuse to say to their teacher for not doing their homework.
Freshman Demetrius McKoy used the commonly used excuse that no teacher seems to believe nowadays, “My dog ate my homework.”
Although this may happen, this excuse is not typically believable because it has been used for many years and a countless amount of times. It is also a very rare occurrence that has a slight chance of actually happening.
Junior Kylie McGrogan said that she rarely forgets to do her homework, but when she does, she uses the excuse that she spilled a drink on her work. This is a rather smart excuse because her work would then be ruined and the ink or pencil markings would be smeared.
Freshman Kennedy Tillery and sophomore Alyssia Boylan both had said that their best excuse they use is that they were too tired.
Boylan said, “I take a nap and sleep all night and forget.”
This is a very realistic excuse and I feel as though most teens fall asleep as soon as they get home. Waking up early for school and using your brain all day can be tiring especially since our brains are still developing.
A countless number of other students said that they have to go to work and it’s far too overwhelming to do both school and work, especially with the workload that they are given from their teachers.
Different students use different reasons to excuse their mistake of not doing their homework. Whether they’re telling the truth or not, teachers will never really know for sure.
