Ah yes cheese, an iconic staple in every culture around the world, with various countries giving their own unique interpretations of cheese. Given how versatile cheese is, there are going to be varying opinions of what cheese is the best, and consequently, which cheese is the worst.
In a recent survey conducted by the Roaring Bengals, it was found that 58.33% of individuals considered blue cheese to be the worst, then 16.67% considered cottage cheese the worst, and lastly 8.33% voted for Easy Cheese, nacho cheese and Kraft Singles.
Junior Lexx Poole said, “Easy cheese is absolutely disgusting, it’s just artificial slop in a can. It doesn’t even need to be refrigerated either which makes it even more disgusting because that means it has a large amount of preservatives to keep it from spoiling. It’s just artificial fake sludge.”
Blue cheese is wildly different from your typical American cheeses such as Colby Jack. Most cheeses are often eaten while still fresh, long before they begin growing mold. If mold grows, the cheese cannot be sold and is thrown away. With blue cheese, however, it is the complete opposite. Rather than eating the cheese at its prime, the cheese is kept in a controlled environment where a blue mold is encouraged to grow. If this fact alone isn’t enough to deter a person, blue cheese also has a very strong, often described as ammonia smell. This only makes people dislike it even more, if the mold wasn’t enough to bother them.
At second place we have cottage cheese, which originates from ancient Mesopotamia. It is best described as a liquidy, lumpy, creamy texture, comparable to a cursed soup. The process of making cottage cheese is done through fermentation. Through this, milk is fermented and eventually separated
into curds, resulting in curds mixed with residue milk underneath.
Unlike blue cheese, which naturally has a pungent odor, cottage cheese doesn’t. The noticeable feature of cottage cheese that causes people to have a strong distaste for it lies within the texture. The texture alone is enough to provoke a person to vomit due to multiple textures causing sensory overload.
It’s clear to see that the two main contributors towards the opinion on the worst kinds of cheeses lies within its textures and smells being the biggest deterrent, as most people don’t want to consume foods with a strong odor, let alone consumer foods with a texture that they cannot swallow due to their body’s rejection.
In the end, blue cheese and cottage cheese are the worst cheeses. The main contributors to their national dislike are their tastes, textures and smells. However, I think we can all agree that the worst kinds of cheese are the ones that are rotten beyond recognition.
