Fuquay-Varina High School held their first ever clap out on Thursday during second period. The clapout is for athletes in our school to be recognized for their athletic accomplishments. In the clapout, the athletes had walked through the school while those who aren’t involved in sports clapped for them.

This not only gave recognition to sports that aren’t recognized much, but also gave our athletes an opportunity to feel appreciated.

Freshman Harper Lane said, “I think it allowed all sports to be recognized, especially ones that don’t get a lot of attention.”

This event also provided some school spirit throughout the halls and may have even encouraged others to get involved with activities and sports in the school.

“Events like this around the school allow students to connect with each other outside of the class,” sophomore Michael Kirschner said.

Having support outside of just your teammates means a lot to our student athletes. Opinions on the clapout were positive and athletes felt as though it was inspiring in a way.

“I found the clap out uplifting for athletes and it inspired me. It made athletes feel supported and appreciated, which I feel is not done often enough. It is also a great reminder of teamwork, even if we are not on the field or court,” said Kirschner.

Not only was the clap out an exciting experience for athletes, but also for our school and the people inside of it.

Lane said, “I thought it was a fun experience for both the school overall and athletes. It gives a sense of unity for everyone and it allows people of the school to express their support, even if they aren’t fully involved.”

Our athletes deserve to feel recognized for all that they do for our school. Hopefully, we will see this event next year, as it was enjoyable and exciting for everyone.
