Senior Julie Selig won the WRAL “Extra Effort” Award for continuously showing the dedication of being a perfect student-athlete here at FVHS. To be gifted this award is an amazing achievement that holds much value. Many people would agree that Selig is very well deserving of this award because of her amazing personality and radiating energy.
Selig said, “I am very grateful to receive this award.”
Being a student-athlete is very demanding and you have to learn how to balance them both out. Selig has demonstrated this perfectly when participating in swimming, flag football, cross country and softball. She perseveres throughout all of these sports even though they can all have their own demanding factors.
“I feel as though I try to work hard on and off the field and give 110% in everything I do,” said Selig.
Another important factor of this award is being a supportive teammate to encourage others when playing any type of sport. She’s a motivating leader to her peers, and she’s known around the school for her inclusive spirit. When her teammates are struggling, she seems to uplift them and make them feel as heard as she can.
“I feel like I try to be inclusive to my teammates, always have a positive attitude, and also try to bring my teammates up if they are struggling,” said Selig.
Selig’s dedication and positive attitude make her a role model for FVHS. Her recognition inspires other students at FVHS to strive to find that perfect balance between both success in academics and athletic commitment.
Her plans after high school is to pursue her love for softball at Barton College, and she will continue to spread her positivity and hard work throughout. If you see her around, make sure to congratulate her for winning this prestigious award.
