After going through years of nothing but tests, quizzes, and early mornings, it’s only fair that seniors get to enjoy their last year of high school with some well deserved privileges.
There are many things that these 17-18 year olds should have or be able to do that they haven’t been allowed to in recent years.
For starters, seniors should be the first priority when it comes to parking spots. They’ve been there the longest, and most seniors are driving themselves to school every day. It only makes sense that they get a guaranteed spot, especially one that’s closer to the building.
Senior Carson Allen said, “We have earned it at this point, after four years of this [high school], the least they can do is give me a spot closer to the building.”
Another privilege seniors should get is to have first pick when it comes to choosing electives, especially fun or useful ones that are hard to get into due to the number of people that pick them. After spending years taking core classes like math and chemistry, seniors deserve the chance to take classes that actually interest them or teach them real life skills. It’s not fair when a freshman gets into a cooking class while a senior who actually wants to learn how to cook before going to college is stuck in something random. Letting seniors have priority during scheduling would give them more control over their final year and help make school feel less like a chore.
Seniors also deserve to have their own seniors only lounge area, a place for them to relax during lunch or when they don’t have classes to go to. It could be a room with couches, charging stations, books, and computers. Not only would it give them a break during the day, but it would also be a small reward for everything they’ve done to get to that point.
Seniors have put in the work and should be able to enjoy the final stretch of high school. These small privileges wouldn’t hurt anyone, and they’d go a long way in making seniors feel recognized and appreciated.
