As the school year comes to an end, students at Fuquay-Varina High School are starting to feel the pressure. May is not just about the countdown to summer, it’s also AP exam season. AP exams are very important for students, as it decides whether or not they get college credit for the class they took.
The College Board has scheduled the 2025 AP Exams from May 5–9 and May 12–16. For some students, these exams are an opportunity to reduce time in college and save money. Each exam is standardized across the country and taken on the same dates. AP Biology kicks off first on the morning of Monday, May 5, while AP English Literature is set for Wednesday, May 7. The second week features courses like, Calculus AB, AP English Language, and Psychology. Students at Fuquay-Varina will be among the hundreds of thousands of students taking AP Exams, often having to juggle taking multiple AP exams. Adding to this difficulty, students will also face their finals for non AP classes, making this a very academically demanding time.
Passing an AP Exam with a score of 3 or higher, can often qualify a student for college credit or advanced placement in college. For many students at Fuquay-Varina, this is their biggest goal.
“I just really want to pass my Calculus AB Exam. I know it’s going to be hard, but I can do it,” said senior Kudzai Bere.
Like many students at Fuquay-Varina High School, Bere is putting in long hours to study for his exam. With multiple exams lined up across a short two-week period, staying organized and motivated is key.
“We know how much pressure the students are under,” said Lydia Wyche, AP Precalculus Teacher. “I just want students to try their best and focus on managing their time.”
As the AP Exams get closer, students at Fuquay-Varina High School are pushing through the stress with determination. Whether they have one or three exams, they are giving it everything they have. With the chance to earn college credit and a major step towards their future career, the hard work might pay off.
