Womens lacrosse has become a more well-known sport over the years. Our women’s lacrosse team is 4-4 right now, with their next game being Monday, April 7, against Willow Spring High School. The girls have been working hard as a team to win every game, and the main team goal of the season is to make it to conference and win.
Junior Jordyn Goode has been playing lacrosse for two years, and she wants to get better as a player this year. She is also using different strategies to help out her teammates so they can have a better chance at winning.
Goode said, “Something I would say to people who want to play the sport is not to get discouraged easily and that one bad game doesn’t define you.”
Freshman Morgan Barnett has expressed how she believes her team works together effectively, and there is a good bond between everyone on the team.
When playing a sport like lacrosse, it’s not just about determination, it’s about appreciating the game and the people you play with. Sophomore Fernanda Romero-Ramirez is a prime example of that, she enjoys the community she’s surrounded by when playing lacrosse because everyone is positive and encourages others to play well.
“I was interested in the sport this year because it’s something that I’ve wanted to do, so I attended the workouts,” said Romero-Ramirez.
A lot of the women on the team have been inspired to play by family or peers, Junior Jayden Harris said that her friend is what inspired her to start her journey in playing women’s lacrosse during her freshman year. Harris expressed how much she liked it after her freshman year, so she wanted to continue playing her entire high school career.
Barnett has been playing lacrosse for a little less than a year. What sparked her interest was the inspiration her sister gave her.
“My sister plays lacrosse, so I definitely got a lot of my inspiration from her,” said Barnett.
Junior Gillian Gavette wants people who are interested in the sport to know that lacrosse is fun and easy to develop the fundamental skills for.
“For the people who want to play, I would say lacrosse is really fun, and not hard when it comes to developing the fundamental skills,” said Gavette.
To see the hard work these girls have put into the sport they love, come out and support this amazing team at the next home game on April 7 against Willow Spring High School.
