The JV womens soccer team has had a hardworking season with a record of 3-2. They aren’t on the same level as varsity yet, but that doesn’t mean that they exert the same amount of effort. Every practice and game gives an opportunity to grow, either as a team or individually. While making the varsity team is an ultimate goal for many, being on the JV team is about development.
Freshman Maverick Grimsley said, “We definitely had our differences at the beginning of the season, but over time, we began to work really well together.”
Every team has their challenges, yet they learned to work together even when there were moments earlier in the season where there wasn’t much teamwork.
JV teams are all about growth and perfecting skills to prepare for varsity. This team has not only been working hard in soccer but also in school to maintain their grades.
“We all know how to get our work done for school, and we know not to bring it onto the field,” Grimsley said.
The team dynamic has been developing over the season. Good communication is a huge factor that gives the team an advantage.
“I think that our biggest strength throughout our team is that we are able to communicate and hold each other accountable,” said freshman Luci Navarro.
Having an open mind while playing a sport such as soccer, will give you an advantage when playing.
“For someone thinking of joining the team, I would say to have an open mind and don’t be scared to try out, because you never know the good opportunities that could come your way.” said Navarro.
Many players start with little experience but realize that over time, effort matters much more than just talent. Stepping onto the soccer field could lead you to many opportunities you would never have expected.
