During the 17th century, hygiene became very important to the people in France. The French used perfumes to mask the displeasing body odors. Perfumes and colognes have become a daily necessity for those who want to smell fresh all day long, but these scents do not replace deodorant.
Sophomore Hayden Folan said, “Deodorant isn’t something to only make you smell good; it has antiperspirants which helps with sweating and body odor.”
Whenever someone doesn’t use deodorant but uses perfumes or colognes, these sprays heighten the smell of the body odor, which does the opposite of what perfume and cologne is supposed to do. This leads to people smelling worse than what they were trying to aim for.
World History teacher Gragg Halkuff said, “I think wearing deodorant should be a choice, but I highly recommend wearing deodorant.”
While Halkuff and Folan discussed their opinions on deodorant, they also shared their most worn perfumes and colognes.
Halkuff said, “While I don’t have a favorite cologne, I do have a signature scent. The brand is Joop and it was given to me by someone.”
Folan has expressed that she mainly wears vanilla scented body sprays from Bath & Body Works.
Folan said, “I mainly wear vanilla scented perfumes because it’s not really seasonal, and it’s kind of an all year around scent.”
While perfumes and colognes are good to make us smell fresh and clean, there is a point when someone wears too much perfume and cologne.
Halkuff said, “Whenever I see students packing up to leave class they usually freshen up with perfumes or colognes, but there are some who spray too much, and whenever they do, people’s allergies tend to act up.”
Halkuff also mentioned that people should be mindful whenever wearing perfumes or colognes.
With all this being said, perfumes and colognes are worn amongst almost everyone at FVHS. But it is still important to wear deodorant when wearing these body sprays.
