For students, JV is way more than just playing so you can look good for varsity the next year. JV is a time for growth and setting foundations for the future, on and off of the field. Being on JV teaches players how to be a family rather than just teammates. It gives all of the teammates the opportunity to learn how to collaborate and develop nonverbal communication on the field when playing their game.
Freshman Harper Copeland has been playing baseball for eight years now. He understands the importance of collaboration and being a team.
Copeland said, “It’s always more fun when you win.”
He expressed that being around teammates who help you win and help you play to your full potential is very important. Our JV baseball team has been on a roll since the season started, with a record of 3-1 right now. They are super excited for what’s to come as the season continues.
Freshman Cooper Zehr said, “For team goals, I want us to have a winning record and go to conference.”
A part of being on JV is setting a goal for yourself. The main goal is to build up skills good enough to be on varsity the next year, but all of the teammates have their own personal goals for the end of this season.
Zehr wants to stay consistent and do his best this season, and freshman Grayson Sill wants to be a starter for one of the games this season.
Freshman Thomas Catchings has only been playing baseball for three years. This is his first year playing for a school; other than that, he has only played travel baseball. Catching doesn’t let that stop him though, his goals for this season are more playing time and hopefully starting during a game. He also wants the team to keep winning. Catchings has expressed how the bus rides home after winning are really fun and entertaining because the team has a positive attitude and are proud of themselves.
The team is successful when it comes to being just teammates. Come out and support our Bengals for their home game against Cleveland High School on March 21 at 4:00 p.m.
