The Costco food court all started with one hot dog stand outside of the San Diego warehouse location in 1984 where you could purchase a quarter pound hot dog and a 20 ounce refillable soda for $1.50. After 41 years, the company has not once raised the price. Today, what do hungry customers look forward to most when entering their membership-exclusive warehouse club?
In a recent poll conducted among FVHS students it looks like most shoppers are grabbing a slice of pizza when visiting the store. When given the option between Costco hot dogs, chicken bakes, pizza and ice cream sundaes, 33% of FVHS customers are heading straight for a slice of fresh pizza.
Special Education teacher Christine Fruth, who also has a part-time Costco job said, “By far the large sized pizzas [are the top sellers], and frequently customers have more than one box of pizza in their carts.”
Recently Costco has been gaining a lot of traction in the food court since A.J. and Big Justice, also known as the “Costco Guys,” blew up on TikTok in early 2024. Their video, which featured the chicken bake and double chocolate chunk cookie, received 62.6 million views. Their Costco content has not stopped coming as they continue to partner with products.
Junior Lucas Prestipino said, “My favorite thing to get at Costco is the chicken bake. I would say as far as price goes, it’s a really good price. It’s a very good value, and at the quality, it is kind of unbeatable.”
It is widely agreed among customers that the prices and quality of food court items are a bargain and adds to the excitement of becoming a member. Despite the rave of the chicken bake and hot dogs, the item that has FVHS’s heart is the fresh 18 inch pizza with the options of pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, olives, onions and green peppers as toppings.
From the classic quarter pound hot dog that started it all to the 18 inch pizzas, Costco is constantly satisfying customers and ensuring they leave with a snack for the road. Let’s just say the Costco food court gets five big booms from FVHS.
