Anyone who has lived in North Carolina knows that the weather is always changing. One day it can be freezing with ice, and the next day it is warm. Due to the many snow days we’ve had this year, Wake County’s teacher work days are now school days. April 7, April 17, and May 2 are teacher work days that are replacing the snow days of Feb 19-21.
Wake County no longer has remote days due to the rule that schools won’t have remote days unless all the teacher work days and a few holidays are used for make-up time. That bothers many students and teachers because those days give students a good break and teachers time to plan.
Sophomore Audrey Ehresman said, “I’m not really ready for the risks of extra school. My teachers have not assigned me any extra work.”
Ehresman’s classes are pretty chill, so she hasn’t gotten any virtual school work. A few teachers assigned work over the snow days, so people can keep up.
Ehresman said, “I like to go sledding and make snowmen on these snowy days. I also enjoy throwing snowballs at my sisters. I also like drinking hot chocolate by the fire when I’m tired from playing in the snow.”
Ehresman doesn’t enjoy the idea of making up work on holidays and teacher workdays. She is okay if there are a few remote days if she can still play in the snow without losing school days.
Ehresman said, “Snow is great and all, but I’ve got things I want to do on Saturdays. I have plans to hang out with friends on teacher work days.”
