With the spring season approaching, the Fuquay-Varina Bengals women’s soccer team is getting ready for an exciting and competitive season. The team has already set plans for training, media day and preseason scrimmages as they prepare to take on some strong opponents this year. Several returning players and new faces will play a significant role in shaping the Bengals’ 2025 season.
Our varsity seniors include Maddie Austiff, Rachel Cunningham, Jaycee Baker, Olivia Coley, Leila Utate, Marbella Romero, Ava Harvey and Molly Shields. We also have juniors, Dorothy Dunning, Claire Pulling, Erin Webre, Brooklyn Gonerway, Ciara Hassig, Raegan Tart, Raegan Redwine, Braelynn Wagner, Kendyl Kraus and Madi Doss on our varsity team this season.
“Having both a field and a goal jersey on the varsity team this season is really exciting for me. Being able to use all of my skills on two very different aspects of the game is really cool,” said Dunning. “It’s validating to know that I can be used in different parts of the game and be a completely versatile player.”
We also have an impressive bunch of five underclass men that made the varsity team this season. Sophomores Peyton Buffaloe and Violet Terrasse and freshmen Paige Dilley, Kayla Mulutzie and Sydney Murphy all secured their varsity spots due to their hard work and dedication.
“Club soccer has really helped prepare and condition me for school soccer because I was practicing consistently and my coaches were really supportive and helpful in improving my abilities on the field,” said freshman Paige Dilley. “It feels really good making the team as a freshman too, especially knowing that I worked really hard to get the skill set that I have. It makes me really happy to be acknowledged and recognized for my hard work and dedication to my sport.”
The Bengals preseason is packed with crucial meetings and training sessions aimed at building team chemistry and conditioning players for the matches ahead. The players have had mental training, media day, fundraising and parent meetings this week to prepare them for their upcoming games.
Their first matchups of the season will take place on Feb. 24 in the Bengal Stadium, JV is at 4:30 p.m., and varsity is at 6:30 p.m. Varsity will then go on to play two away games. The first will be against Ashley High School on Feb. 28 at Swansboro High School, and the second will be on Mar. 1 at Jacksonville HS, kick off is at 12:00 p.m.
