Spring is the time in which athletes look forward to the excitement of new sports. After months of cold weather and training indoors, athletes are finally able to go outside in the warm weather and participate in their favorite sports, showcasing their preparation and hard work. Baseball, womens soccer, track and field, mens golf, mens lacrosse, mens tennis, and stunt are beginning their seasons this week.
Junior Kylie McGrogan, who tried out for softball, said, “When I was a kid, I always watched softball on television and was fascinated by all the college athletes.”
College athletes can often balance academics and sports, which is something that many teens can relate to, making them feel more connected to them.
Freshman Taylor King tried out for soccer and said, “Working with your teammates is more of a bond than a sport.”
These two athletes are participating in these sports in the hope of recognition to pursue their sport in college. Spring sports make for an exhilarating time and experience for everyone, whether on the field, stands, or at home cheering from afar.
When participating in sports, athletes realize that it isn’t just about competition, but instead about the joy of pushing past their limits, building long-lasting friendships, and learning valuable life lessons along the way.
