Womens varsity basketball took a thrilling win last week on Tuesday versus Cleveland High School. This team has been working arduously, but they aren’t just a team. Instead, they have become a family this past season.
Sophomore Abigail Meaney said, “Our team is definitely a family. Our record may not be the best, but we all work together. We are friends on and off the court’’.
A winning team is not defined by the scoreboard; it’s defined by the way they carry themselves, on and off the court. Each lady on this team has proven their strengths and perseverance.
The game last Tuesday showed their diligence and had the FVHS fans entertained the entire time. They were down two points, and there was no room for mistakes with 3.8 seconds left on the clock.
Meaney displayed her skill and fast thinking when she scored the winning point just as the buzzer went off. The crowd erupted and the team celebrated by jumping and shouting as they swarmed Meaney. Cleveland was left in awe when Meaney made the shot, making the score 37-36. It was the trust, teamwork, and the shared belief that they could do it together.
“It was a team effort. So that shot didn’t change the game, but it was a nice moment,” said Meaney.
At that moment, they were all sharing the same exhilarating feeling, which made the victory more rewarding. The shared love for basketball throughout the team makes their season not just about the victories. Instead, it’s about the happiness and joy of playing, being a part of something bigger than yourself and experiencing that with a team you have learned to love and trust.
