We unzipped backpacks across campus to find what students cannot live without. Even if students’ organizational abilities are lacking, these necessities help them keep on top of their assignments.
Some kids use their bags as makeshift pantries in addition to carrying school necessities. A packed lunch may be neatly kept in a lunchbox, or there could be a squashed granola bar at the bottom.
Some students have extra clothes, whether it’s for the cold weather or for their P.E. class.
Sophomore Alyysia Boylan is an example. She said she was keeping a jacket with her “in case it was cold today.”
Students like sophomores Mia Huerta and Mack Taylor kept all the personal necessities, such as deodorant, perfume, Advil, and tissues. Surprisingly, only a few students had lunch with them. Possibly more students got school lunch instead of bringing their own lunch.
Students clearly have a wide variety of what they keep in their bag. Students’ backpacks can serve as the perfect survival kit for each day of school, no matter what is in it. As long as they have something to write with and on, they should be set.
