Student Council has created many events to help foster school spirit and to help students grow together as a community. The Culture Fair is coming up Thursday, Feb. 27. There will also be a 3 on 3 basketball tournament on March 13, Powder Puff and Volleybros in the spring, and Senior Sunset in June before graduation. Most of the dates have not been finalized.
The Cultural Fair is an event for students all over the school to share their culture to their peers. Student Council is asking for families to sign up for the event and have a table with food, games, or other items from their culture. Student Council is collaborating with many clubs and organizations from the school for this event.
President of Student Council and Senior, Sydney Griffin said, “For the cultural fair, we’re bringing everyone from the Fuquay community.”
Student Council is looking for more people to present their culture. They want to represent all the cultures we have on campus at the fair.
The proceeds from the 3-on-3 basketball tournament will go to The Hidden Opponent for mental health. The practice will be on March 12 from 2:30-5:30 p.m. and the game will be on March 13 starting at 5:45 p.m. Teams can consist of all teachers/staff, all students or a combination of both.
Volleybros is where the roles are changed, and boys play volleyball which is a female dominated sport. Powder Puff is a football game where girls play and boys are the cheerleaders. Both of these events are a school favorite which gets students working together while being competitive and active.
“Powder Puff and Volleybros always bring school spirit, they all love it. It just brings everyone closer, and they have a good time,” said Griffin.
Griffin explained that these events create school spirit, traditions, and a relaxing time. These events are for students to bond with one another and not focus so much on the academics of the school year.
Senior sunset is when all seniors gather after school on campus to watch the sun set. This can be an emotional time as they realize these are the last moments they have at FVHS together. This event has not been scheduled yet.
Griffin said, “[At] senior sunset, everyone just has fun and celebrates their last days as being a senior together.”
Griffin talked about a surprise event that will be held sometime in June. It will be a competition against the different grade levels. She hopes events like these bring more school spirit and a sense of community to the student body.
