The FVHS varsity cheer team has been recruiting and encouraging young cheerleaders, from kindergarten to eighth grade, to participate in their sport.
They have hosted two cheer clinics so far this school year. The first one was for the Fuquay-Varina football team at the Homecoming Game on Sep. 20. The theme, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, was chosen to get the kids excited about participating.
The second cheer clinic was hosted on Jan. 28. The theme for this clinic was Welcome to the Jungle, and they performed during halftime of the FVHS mens basketball game. For both of the clinics, the cheerleaders spent a total of three hours working with the kids before they performed.
Varsity cheerleader and junior Carrie Cameron likes being involved with the cheer clinics. Before the halftime show, Cameron said she likes to focus on keeping her limbs tight when flying during her performance.
“This helps me be a good role model for the kids,” Cameron said.
The whole point of these clinics is to get others involved but also to watch the kids’ faces light up as they accomplish something new.
Cameron said, “I loved seeing the little girls having the best time possible, and it was so rewarding to teach them new skills!”
Since these kids are young, they haven’t had a lot of floor time, so there are certain things they can and can’t do, but the girls performed a perfect cheer and danced to “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N’ Roses.
They will be hosting more clinics in the future, so be on the lookout for more information so that you can show up and show out to cheer on the mini Bengals.
