The final exams for many first semester classes are Jan. 13 through Jan. 17. Each day’s schedule is 7:25-11:25 a.m. for the exam, and the buses will depart at 11:45 a.m.
Unlike the spring exams last year, students will not have two exams per day. Monday will be first period, Tuesday is second period, Wednesday is third period, Thursday is fourth period and Friday is for make-up exams. Only students that have missed an exam and need to make them up should show up for the Friday exams. Monday, Jan. 20, is a holiday and Tuesday, Jan. 21, is a teacher work day.
Students will have to remain in class during the entire exam period. Students must be in school to take the exams. If they have to miss an exam, they must submit a parent note to the attendance office.
Seniors may be exempt from exams if their final grade is higher than or equal to an 80 percent, and they have less than ten absences in the class. The rule does not apply to AP classes or EOC classes.
Sophomore Summer Renkert explained that she thinks that finals could be better. She said that having to study for so many back to back tests gives her anxiety.
Renkert said, “They could be much better. For final exams, I think they should be held before break, even though that requires starting school sooner.”
Renkert remarks that though she is worried about exams, she is preparing. She usually does research on the class and studies via flash cards.
Renkert said, “I practice if it’s a class I can, like coding, and I collaborate with friends on questions.”
Renkert noted that timing and day choice matter for exams. Back to back tests does not help the mental or physical health of students.
Jan. 22 will start the new semester with new classes.
