Students and staff participated in our annual door decorating contest last week. Door decorations were due for classes Friday, Dec. 13. Dec. 16 judges looked at the amazing decorations students and teachers made and decided which were the best. The doors who win get bragging rights for their creativity.
Shannon O’Brien got third place with her gingerbread men and little Shrek design. Laura Armfield won second place with her class’s science themed door. Collin Martin won first place with his door decorated as the Grinch version of Benny the Bengal.
Seniors Sophia Griffith, Nick Ratnesar, Megan Roseman and Sanika Surve, and juniors Rachel Percenti and Stephanie Otiz worked on Armfield’s science door. It was made of Origami DNA and special cut outs of cells. They also have a sign saying “Cell-A-Brate”. Everyone worked on the door over a three day period.
Griffith said, “We made a biology theme but it was also festive.”
The group likes how their door kept with their classes theme. They saw that others looked really nice, but they weren’t really their classroom theme.
Roseman said, “Our door is lit up with the star of Mrs. Armfield.”
Martin said he was excited that he won the door decorating competition. His third period class made it with paper and markers.
Martin said, “I like winning, it’s fun.”
Martin also likes many of the interactive doors. He believes that the Christmas Story Door and Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer door were good.
Martin said, “I liked the one that got his tongue stuck. It was a good idea.”
Art teacher Ryan Potter wasn’t in the competition but his door had won the door decoration competition years ago. He made the rocking penguin door around 2018. He reuses his door design for the holiday season.
Truely, all of the doors were amazing and were well planned. Staff and students love working together to make an amazing door. People also enjoy walking through the decorated halls for the rest of the week.
