The spotlight was on sophomore Lunna Murphy last weekend at the HighlightHER all-star game. There were players from many travel teams at this tournament and many already committed to high level college lacrosse programs. Murphy did not disappoint in that game. Unfortunately she is currently too young to be recruited by top colleges but is on their watch list.
The HighlightHER tournament was a great way to see full talent and potential from many athletes, featuring fast-paced action, teamwork, and outstanding individual plays. Murphy not only held her own but excelled, leaving a mark on the tournament. Whether it was her passing, decisive plays, or defensive stops, she was outstanding in showcasing the level of skill and dedication she brings to the field.
“The speed of the game was very intense. I play midfield which is more offense rather than defense so the biggest highlight for me was my defensive reps and back checks,” said Murphy.
Behind every great athlete is a strong support system, and for Murphy, that is her family, teammates and coaches. Her parents have been very encouraging, traveling to tournaments and cheering her on from the sidelines. Her coaches and teammates push her to grow every day and play a vital role in refining her skills to build her confidence. Their belief in her potential motivates her drive to succeed.
The tournament wasn’t just about competition, it was a chance for players to display their talent in front of many scouts, coaches and nationwide audiences. While there were many athletes participating who were already committed to college programs, Murphy’s performance further solidified her as a player.
“Having that as something to put on my lacrosse profile boosts college coaches that go to look at you and want to see more. It boosts your confidence a lot, but you have to stay humble with so much more to come knowing how I played in that game,” said Murphy.
With her performance Murphy has taken a significant step in her lacrosse journey. Though she may not be eligible for recruitment just yet, her name is now known. This is just the beginning for a young athlete with unlimited potential and bright future in her lacrosse career.
