Known for their excellent starts and strong finishes, James has been focusing on improving reaction time and the mentality portion of running. The athletes who compete in the sprinting category hope to improve all their times and succeed more every meet.
“To prepare I watch videos of my favorite track athletes and how they run to mentally get my mind off things. I look online to see what heat and lane I’m in so I can prepare myself on how I will execute my form, as well as stretching and hydrating before a race,” said Pedro.
The distance group, led by junior Madeleine St. Pierre, is prepared to have a strong outcome in this season’s different meter races and aims to set a new personal record. The group’s determination will be tested as they prepare to face lots of different competitors.
“A positive attitude from the team plays for a good outcome in meets. I listen to music to get in the zone, as well as stretching and warming up well before a race,” said St. Pierre.
Field athletes are ready to make their mark as well. Leading the long jump, senior Jack Owen, has shown a noticeable improvement in practice, aiming to clear a personal best. Each athlete has been working on technique and strength, hoping to secure critical points for the team.
Owen said, “I practice everyday and take two rest days before a meet to build up strength in my muscles, along with working to improve by resting, repetitions, jumping into the pit and jump circuits.”
The upcoming meets will be an important step in the team’s season. Athletes are looking to build momentum, improve personal records and set the tone for future competitions. With a large mix of determination, skill and preparation, the team is ready to compete at their best.
